Hoof Abscess

Description:
Localized bacterial infection in the sensitive structures of the hoof.

Causes:
trauma

Clinical Signs:
lameness, bruising

Diagnosing:
Physical exam, radiograph

Corrective Procedures:

Treatments - Non Product:
Epsom soak, Pack hoof, bandage

Treatments - Product:
Epsom salts, magnapaste

Special Notes:
Soak the hoof daily in warm epsom salt water to allow softening of the hoof. Pack the hoof with magnapaste after each soak and proceed by wrapping the hoof in 2 cast padding (or a diaper) vet wrap and duct tape the bottom so the horse doesn't wear through the wrap. Repeat daily till the abscess has resolved
